What will I learn in a session?
At White Tiger Martial Arts, we focus on four main areas of training:
Here is a brief description of each area:
Kihon - This is the study of the basics such as punches, kicks, blocks and stances
Kata - Kata are a fixed sequence of movements and are part of 'traditional' karate
Kumite - This is free sparring or fighting, always under control, with punches and kicks held back from full power
Self Defence - This is the practice of escapes from difficult situations, such as grabs and threats
Kihon is covered in every session, combined with one of the other areas mentioned above. Every fourth session will have controlled impact to shields or focus mitts, to further develop technique and power.
The areas covered rotate, so that if a student can only train once a week, they will cover everything in the month.
Beginners
Dedicated beginners sessions do not follow the rotation mentioned above. During the first four weeks, each lesson will cover a little of the four of the areas, so that new students get a taste of what can be expected in the future.
