Who or what is the Sensei?
Sensei literally means "first born" (in other words, someone "born before you in the style"), and is the term used to address the instructor of the class, a position earned through years of hard training and deserving of acknowledgement and respect.
Before individual interaction with a Sensei and before commencing a training session, it is customary for the pupil or class to bow to the Sensei. This gesture is repeated at the end of the training session. Apart from being a simple sign of respect, the symbolism behind the gesture represents "asking to be taught and thanking for being taught".
The Sensei plays a major role in the training and development of the student. It is important to trust the judgement of the Sensei, even though the instruction and discipline may appear somewhat harsh at times. Remember that the Sensei is guided by years of experience and the knowledge of what really is "best for you".
White Tiger Martial Arts currently has three Sensei's, all of whom are 2nd Dan Black Belts with years of experience between them. On most occasions you will see all three Sensei's at every training session.
