What should I wear? |
|
You train barefooted, wearing a karate gi (long white training trousers and a loose fitting white jacket). The white (beginner) belt and embroidered club badge will be included as part of the first suit you buy, and you will receive a different colour belt as you reach the next grade. It is not essential to purchase a karate gi until your first grading, although some students like to order one sooner. Until you have a gi, you should wear loose fitting tracksuit trousers (no jeans or shorts) and a T-shirt or sweatshirt. All jewellery should be removed before the commencement of training to prevent injury to you or other students. Once you have progressed further in your training, you will also need hand mitts, leg pads and a groin guard for males and a chest guard for females. Although karate is extremely controlled, a split second error in judgement could result in unexpected contact, and the wearing of protective equipment should avoid any serious injury. As with any physical training, it is important to keep your body hydrated so that it can perform at it's best, so you should always bring a bottle of drink, preferably water, and a towel. |
